Fodor 32 (by Counter-Print)
The Fodor typeface was created for the Fodor Museum in Amsterdam by Wim Crouwel in 1977. Based on a dot grid and taking proportions from the early typewriter systems. The alphabet hints at a baroque letter, such as Bembo, and appears to lean slightly to the left. There is also a relationship with weaving in tapestries such as a Colenbrander tapestry.

This is a photo of the stenciled numbers on the mobile shelving units at the St. Bride Library in London. It comes from a great article on French stencil lettering by writer and historian James Mosley at Typefoundry. He’s the retired Librarian of St. Bride, and stenciled the above numerals while working there. —rh
